Kevin Scott for
Board of Equalization
As a businessman who invests in and advises technology ventures, Kevin Scott is keenly aware of the effect of state tax decisions on the business climate. He also has the financial expertise to be an outstanding member of the state Board of Equalization.
Originally created to ensure uniform property tax assessment practices, the Board of Equalization administers sales and properties taxes and handles income tax appeals. It consists of four members elected by district plus the state Controller.
Kevin Scott will bring the perspective of a businessperson and a taxpayer to his work on the BOE. His review of Board voting shows that the block of three Democrats has voted 99% of the time to deny appeals and support staff recommendations. Kevin will bring independent judgement to the job.
Kevin Scott was born and raised in Menlo Park. His career started at age 11 delivering newspapers, which he did through high school.
After graduating from UC Berkeley with a BA in Political Economics, Kevin worked with a software start-up in Boston. Then he earned an MBA in Finance and Management Policy at Northwestern University.
Back in the Bay Area after business school, Kevin joined Coopers & Lybrand in San Jose as a business advisor and then for three years in Paris, France.
In 2000, Kevin was recruited by London-based 3i Corporation to help develop its venture capital activity in northern California. He invested in numerous local technology businesses and advised them on growth initiatives as a Board Director.
Throughout this time, Kevin was also a Board Member of the Development Council of The Entrepreneur's Foundation - a local philanthropic organization committed to linking the success of Bay Area technology businesses to community-based programs for the needy.
In 2008, Kevin formed his own business, Maywood Capital Partners, to manage venture investments.
The BOE's First District runs from Santa Barbara County up the coast to the Oregon border. It includes 21 counties, including the entire Bay Area. See the map.
Kevin lives in San Carlos with his wife, Shelley, and three children. You can learn more about his campaign from his website.
