As the battle against Proposition 50 heats up, the California Republican Party is planning a Boot Camp at the fall convention in Orange County. The Party announced, “It’s where Republicans from every corner of California unite to fight this shameless power grab and take the fight straight to Gavin Newsom and his allies. When you show up, you’re not just attending another political event. You’re joining the front line in the battle for California’s future. You’ll connect with the fighters, the strategists, and the grassroots leaders ready to win this fight.” The event is termed a “Convention & Leadership Summit” and has the tagline “Going on the Offense: Turning Momentum into Victory”.
At the Convention the CAGOP has scheduled a special “Redistricting 2025 Meeting” on Saturday afternoon at 4:30 in the Roy C-F rooms. The panel features Chair Corrin Rankin, National Committeeman Shawn Steel, Sen. Tony Strickland, and more. The Republican National Lawyers Association is hosting a Redistricting Lawfare Panel Saturday afternoon at 2:15 in the Terrace Room with Shawn Steel, RNLA Chair Garrett Fahy, Orange County GOP Chair Will O’Neill, and Dhillon Law Group Counsel Mark Meuser.
A key part of the boot camp will be training. There will be multiple trainings on Vottiv, the new voter data system that replaces GOP Data Center. Other training classes include Redistricting Ground Game, Messaging Strategy, Precinct Operations, Social Media, Campaign Organization Fundamentals, Turning Doors Into Votes, and Artificial Intelligence for Politics.
Regional caucuses meet at 9am Saturday morning. Elections will be held for Regional Vice Chair in the three Southern California regions: Los Angeles, Inland, and South. An election will also be held for Associate Delegates to elect the Associate Delegate Representative Saturday afternoon at 1pm.
The Friday night banquet will be the Chairman’s Ball, which includes dancing. “This elegant event promises great company, lively entertainment, and the perfect atmosphere to connect and unwind before the convention begins.” The Saturday brunch speaker is Rep. David Schweikert, who was first elected to Congress in 2010 representing Arizona. He currently serves as Chairman of the Joint Economic Committee and the Ways and Means Oversight subcommittee. He is a lead author of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017, which included one of the largest tax cuts in American history. His suburban Phoenix district is considered one of the most competitive in the country.
The Saturday dinner speaker at the convention is Congressman Dan Crenshaw of Texas. He is a former Navy SEAL and serves on the House Energy and Commerce Committee, which has the broadest jurisdiction of any legislative committee in Congress. He also serves on the House Intelligence Committee, where he chairs the Cartel Task force, working to dismantle the violent Mexican drug cartels.
