Tamika Hamilton: Bringing Military Service and Community Advocacy to the Solano County Board of Education

by Roger Riffenburgh

Tamika Hamilton, a nonprofit leader, Air Force veteran, and longtime Solano County resident, is running for the Solano County Board of Education in November. A mother of four, Hamilton’s candidacy centers on restoring trust, amplifying parent voices, and strengthening student outcomes.

Tamika Hamilton relates, “As a veteran and longtime community leader, I believe education leadership is about stewardship of public trust, public dollars, and the futures of our children. The Solano County Board of Education plays a critical role in oversight and accountability, and I am running to bring disciplined leadership, transparency, and decisions rooted in both data and compassion.”

Hamilton’s background reflects a lifetime of service and community involvement. After enlisting in the United States Air Force, she served more than a decade — including two deployments to the Middle East. Her military experience informs her leadership style and commitment to discipline, accountability, and teamwork. Following her military career, Hamilton transitioned into nonprofit work, where she focused on youth development, community safety, and expanding access to educational resources for underserved families in the Sacramento–Solano area.

Her campaign for the Board of Education emphasizes student-centered schools and greater parental engagement. “Our schools should be places where every child can reach their full potential and every parent has a voice,” Hamilton says, underscoring her belief that local education governance must be responsive and inclusive.

Hamilton also highlights fiscal accountability and student safety as priorities. She argues that learning environments should be safe, well-resourced, and focused on preparing students for life after graduation. “I’m running to restore trust, transparency and excellence in education across Solano County,” she asserts, positioning her platform around open decision-making and smart stewardship of public funds.

Hamilton’s campaign reflects a blend of disciplined leadership, community engagement, and an emphasis on partnership between parents, educators, and policymakers. Her message resonates with voters looking for practical solutions, accountable governance, and a stronger voice for families within the Solano County education system.

Hamilton is running in Trustee Area #6, which includes Dixon and southeast Vacaville.

Tamika Hamilton was born in Calvert County, Maryland, and raised by her grandparents.  Her grandparents were both Vietnam veterans. Her grandfather, who received a Purple Heart during the Vietnam War, encouraged her to serve in the military.  During her time in the air force, Tamika took courses and earned her Associate degree from the Community College of the Air Force.

Tamika’s husband Ray is a Navy veteran and police officer who serves as a School Resource Officer (SRO).  Tamika and Ray have four children and live in Dixon. You can learn more about Tamika Hamilton on her campaign website, TamikaHamilton.com
